All of us have things that we need to accomplish during our day, but sometimes we lose focus or even the motivation to do something. Putting off things can lead to more stress and even missed opportunities. Our motivation especially seems to wane during the winter months because of the inclement weather and the lack of sunshine. This lack of sunshine lowers your intake of Vitamin D causing hormonal imbalances and depressed moods. There are some strategies available that can help you to find the motivation that you need to accomplish your daily goals.
Here are five strategies that you can employ to get motivated!
1. Take Vitamins:
Making sure that you have enough energy to make it through each day is very important toward accomplishing your goals. Vitamins and supplements provide you with the necessary nutrients that you need which you may not be getting from your diet. The vitamins will keep your body in proper working order and help to regulate your mood, so you have more motivation to get work done! Look into some dopamine supplements!
2. Limit Distractions:
One of the biggest hurdles to accomplishing your goals are distractions. Many people think multitasking saves time but it actually makes the process of both tasks longer because your focus is divided. If you have to get a task done, limit the distractions around you so that you are able to get things done faster. That may mean moving to a different room, getting work done while everyone else in your home is sleeping, or recording your favorite show to watch later. One of the most distracting devices is your phone, so put that down and focus on what you need to do. When you limit distractions, you will find that you are able to accomplish more!
3. Write down your Goals:
Making a list each day of the things that you want to accomplish will help you internalize the things that you need to get done. Studies show that those that write down their goals are more likely to achieve them. If you use your phone or your computer often, you may want to set up notifications on your phone for every task you have scheduled for that day. There are apps out there such as "Balanced - Goals & habits motivation for better life balance" that helps you develop a habit for good accountability for getting tasks done.
4. Think Positively:
When attempting to accomplish a task, go in with a positive attitude. Encourage yourself, repeatedly reminding yourself that you can do it! This will produce better results and oftentimes allow you to get things done faster. Having a positive attitude as you go about your day will increase your motivation and will allow you to accomplish more than you thought possible.
5. Reward Yourself:
When you accomplish a goal, reward yourself. This could be with an episode of your favorite show, a good book, a new dress, or a dessert that you enjoy. By rewarding yourself when you accomplish your goal, you will increase your motivation to actually get things done. Your brain will anticipate the reward and soon you will develop a habit of accomplishing your goals. Eventually accomplishing your tasks for the day will be its own reward :)
These strategies will help you find the motivation to get things done as you go about your day. With increased motivation, you will accomplish so much more and even be able to find some time for yourself. Finding motivation will reduce your amount of stress, so you can enjoy better physical, mental, and emotional health.
