Glassware is a useful tool that gives any meal or drink an elegant look. You can add more flair to your glassware and even give it as a gift for special occasions. Here are some methods to decorate your glassware to impress friends or to give your glassware a signature touch that reflects your style. Experiment and show your creativity!
Easy Etching Method:
Using this method you can create etched glass very simply using an etching cream.
You can create a pattern for your glass using some wall vinyl with a sticky backing or painter’s tape. You can find a pattern that you like and using a light pencil to stencil the pattern onto the vinyl or try to create it free hand. Buying sticker letters is also another option. Then you will want to use a knife and cut out the pattern that you designed onto the vinyl. Remember to use gloves when handling etching cream as it is an acidic chemical.
Stick the vinyl/tape onto the glass. Rub out any bubbles or bulging that may have occurred. Once you have a smoothed out the vinyl/tape it is time to apply the etching cream into the pattern that you have created. The etching cream has properties in it that will actually alter the surface of the glass doing the actual etching for you. Follow the directions on the bottle of your etching cream to see how long you should let the cream set for.
After allowing the cream to set for at least 5 minutes, rinse of the excess cream with hot water and scrub it off using your fingers or a gentle cloth. Then peel back the vinyl/tape and rinse again. Allow to dry and then enjoy your easily etched glass!
Painted Glass Method:
Another way you can easily transform your glass is to use paint pens on your glassware, which allows for easy decorating and control. You will first want to make sure that your glass has a clean surface by cleaning it with rubbing alcohol.
Next you will want to avoid touching the areas that you want to decorate as the oil from your fingers will disrupt the paint. Put on the pattern that you desire and then let the glass sit and dry for 24 hours.
Put the glass on a foil wrapped baking sheet. Next you will want to bake it in the oven for a half hour at 350 in a cool oven, don’t place in a preheated oven. Turn off the oven and allow to cool while still in the oven. Now you can enjoy your beautiful painted glasses!
These glass decorating methods are simple and easy, making them great for giving as gifts for such occasions as bridal and baby showers, Mother’s Day, anniversaries, weddings, and other gift giving occasions. These methods can also be used on decorative glassware to make more personalized for your unique taste.
